L'évidence II

A freestanding reliquary constructed of repurposed and fabricated brass and bronze findings. The piece holds a found Cedar Waxwing feather under a glass dome.

This sculpture continues my investigation into the wisdom innate in our avian friends. The Cedar Waxwing is named such due to their distinctive red “wax” tipped wing feathers. These scarlet droplets are actually secretions, perhaps from their mostly fruit based diet, but the purpose of them is not known. For many years, I longed to spot a Cedar Waxwing in the woods, or even just to hear their call. I found this red-tipped wing feather long before I spotted my first Cedar Waxwing, even before I heard their voice. If it had been any other feather than this very singular wax tipped plume, I would have shrugged it off as from a Titmouse. But this feather encouraged me to keep seeking.
